Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Upikd mobile application ("Upikd", "the App") collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Upikd is published on Google Play by Jupiter VII A and is operated by Shaun Maxwell Ryan ("we", "us", or "our"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

Account information: Your name, username, and email address when you create an account, including via Google sign-in or email magic link.
Profile information: Your profile photo (if provided via Google sign-in), avatar colour preference, and dietary preferences.
Location data: Your approximate device location is used to find nearby venues such as restaurants, bars, cafes, and other places to go out. Location is used only while you are using the App.
App activity: Your sessions, swipes, matches, saved places, groups, and in-app preferences.
Device identifiers: Identifiers used to deliver push notifications and to serve advertising.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

Create and manage your account
Find and display nearby venues based on your location and preferences
Enable group sessions, matching, and real-time features with people you invite
Send push notifications relevant to your sessions and matches (where enabled)
Provide, maintain, and improve the App
Display advertising to users who are not subscribed to the premium tier

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers necessary to operate the App, each of which has its own privacy policy:

Other users: When you join or host a group session, your display name and avatar are visible to other members of that session.
Service providers: We use trusted third parties to run the App (see Section 8).
Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect our rights.

4. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as you have an account with us. If you delete your account, your personal data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

5. Account and Data Deletion

You can delete your Upikd account and all associated personal data at any time.

There are two ways to request deletion:

In the App: Open Upikd, go to Profile → Delete Account, and confirm. This permanently removes your account and associated personal data.
By email: Send a deletion request to smryan2486@gmail.com from the email address associated with your Upikd account, and we will delete your account and associated personal data.

Once your account is deleted, your personal data (including your profile, saved places, sessions, and matches) is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate information
Request deletion of your account and personal data (see Section 5)
Opt out of push notifications (via your device settings)
Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account

7. Children's Privacy

Upikd is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Third-Party Services

Upikd uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:

Google (Places API, Google sign-in, Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications, and AdMob for advertising)
Supabase (authentication and database)
Expo (app infrastructure)

9. Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, use, or disclosure. Data is stored securely using Supabase with row-level security policies, and data is encrypted in transit. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
